Allen and Ireland Win Aga Khan, Butler Wins Second 7 & 8 Year Old Qualifier

Alexander Butler scored a win for Ireland in the second qualifier for the Connolly’s RED MILLS 7 & 8 Year Old International competition at the Discover Ireland Dublin Horse Show in the RDS, while there were emotional scenes as Connolly's RED MILLS Ambassador Bertram Allen played a key role as Ireland won the Aga Khan trophy.

Aga Khan Winners at the Dublin Horse Show 2015Butler and the seven-year-old gelding Decato, had well over a second to spare over Dutch runner-up Vincent Voorn riding Grupo Prom Chacco Boy in the mornings RED MILLS sponsored young horse competition.

Four Irish riders finished in the top six places, with Nicola FitzGibbon taking third place aboard Castleforbes Tina, while Peter Smyth took fourth place with Touch Button.

Thomas O’Brien with his stallion Hector van D'Abdijhoeve slotted into fifth spot while German rider Patrick Stuhlmeyer finished sixth with Eddy E.

The top 20 combinations from the two qualifiers held on Wednesday and Friday will now go forward to Sunday’s Connolly’s RED MILLS 7 & 8 Year Old International competition at the Discover Ireland Dublin Horse Show at the RDS arena in Ballsbridge.

Meanwhile, Connolly's RED MILLS Ambassador Bertram Allen once again showed his class, as Ireland lifted the Aga Khan trophy at the RDS on Friday.

Allen produced a second round clear with Romanov, adding to further clears on the day from Cian O'Connor, Darragh Kenny and a double clear from Greg Broderick.

The Irish last won the famous Aga Khan trophy in 2012 and this latest result means the team have qualified for the Furusiyya Nations Cup final at Barcelona in September.
