Road to Tatts 2015

Camilla Speirs on 07 May 2015

It's that time of year again where the season is fully underway and all our winters training and spring campaigning has been done in the lead up to the big CCI International events.

For me, those events are three of my favorites: Badminton, Tattersalls and Bramham. Myself and Jif will be taking part in our third Badminton - we first competed there in 2010 where we finished 14th. At only 20 years of age back then (Jif only 10!) we have come along way together but I can assure you, Camilla Speirs and Portersize Just a JiffBadminton does not get any smaller or easier with experience!

That feeling of butterflies in my tummy when I think about the cross country or when the amazing spectators and supporters cheer you on after every fence - it really is a special event. Rubbing shoulders with some of the world's best event riders such as William Fox-Pitt, Andrew Nicholson, Pippa Funnell and Mark Todd to name only a few, still seems like a dream back from when I was in the Kildare Pony Club.

I'm lucky also to have alongside me some of my greatest pals (And fellow RED MILLS Ambassadors) Sam Watson and Elizabeth Power to help keep spirits high!

Next on the calendar is Ireland's Tattersalls Horse Trials - this is where it all began for myself and Jif. We did our first ever International here where we won the Junior International class back in 2006. We won the Junior class again in 2007 and in 2009 we took on our first 3* together where we finished 9th. Tatts for me is a place where my horses always thrive, the cross country courses are fantastic, the atmosphere is electric and there is always a friendly face to help you with anything you need.

This year, I am very excited to have two horses competing in the newly introduced 6&7 year old CCI1* class. I think this class is an exceptional idea as every rider will tell you that Tatts is the most perfect event to take young horses to their first International - the enormous entry in this class is a true reflection of why Tattersalls is the best!

I will be campaigning my own BT Cloudnine and Brendan and Sally Coscadden's Goldman. It is the first time that the both of them will take on a long format event and both horses heading in with super recent form - Goldie finishing 2nd in his first CIC1* and Mossy winning his first two events and cruising around his first CIC2*.

Located in Meath, it invites in crowds from all over Ireland who are there to participate in all aspects the event has to offer such as shopping, dog shows, fun rides for the kids and not to mention to cheer on some the greatest riders in the world who will be competing.

RED MILLS will also have a stand at the show so you can pop in and get free expert advice on how to feed your horse to get maximum results and I will be there each day for anyone who wants to pop in and say hello!

If you are looking to make a weekend of it why not stay in the beautiful Village at Lyons which is situated just 20 minutes down the motorway, where you are treated like royalty in their luxury boutiques and exquisite restaurants.

BT Border Bandit and Lowhill Village at Lyons will be aimed for the CCI3* in Bramham Horse Trials which will take place this week after so it's fingers crossed and staying focused for a good result there also.
